Your paean to Los Angeles combined with your incalculable personal grief over this disaster made worse by unbelievable political incompetence is both magnificent and heartbreaking.
Best of luck to you and your fellow Angelenos as you attempt to rebuild your lives.
Fortunately , the human spirit provides the determination to recover from such tragedy and triumph over such adversity. Your words should be widely disseminated so that others far removed from this horrific scene can achieve some understanding of its horror.
Stay safe for yourself but also for all of us who don’t know how we would have coped in this last year of brutal Jew hatred without your searing analysis and ability to articulate exactly what we were all thinking. We treasure you.
Our lives have an odd way of being bookmarked - “after October 7”, “after the fire” etc but there is a constant: resilience. Our ability to somehow survive until the next shitshow. Take care and report back soon Eve.
Born and raised in Sherman Oaks- but left long ago. Praying for all my people there that these awful fires will end asap. It’s all so heart breaking to watch. Stay safe Eve!
Eve, I always love your missives but this one in all of its heartbreaking tragedy is……well, so poignant , so real. Brought me to tears. What a shit year and a half for so many reasons, only to be trumped by the tragedy of LA. Stay safe dearest Eve xx
What a beautiful love poem to LA! I used to say dismissively about LA that there is "no there there" (I believe Gertrude Stein actually said that about Oakland).
Through your eyes, I see that I was wrong. The "there" is in heart and mind and soul, not in the buildings and freeways that are merely the sinews of the city incarnate.
This reminds me of the passion I once felt for LA. Before I moved, a friend did the same Mullholand viewing for me and I was hooked. How you continue to live the city is beyond my scope if understanding, but you write so well I can almost get it. Praying for you and all the Angelinos.
Thinking of you Eve and the so many others affected. It's heartbreaking. I worry for you and your very shot adrenaline system. What you've gone through over these last several years is significant. I pray your body and nervous system can find some solace somewhere and have the ability to recharge before it all goes kaput. Speaking from experience, it's debilitating and takes years to recover. Please take care. Sending love from Canada. xo

🙏🏻🩵 Stay safe dear Eve
So glad you are safe, Eve! There are literally no words for the people of LA. Take care. Xxxx

Stay safe! I hope your home is not affected; I know your heart is broken, and I am so sorry
San Fransisco 1906, Los Angeles 2025... history may not rhyme but it can (and will) happen.
("The death toll currently stands at ten for the LA fires, and this was not an act of terrorism..." You sure about that Eve?)

Thanks for saving The Waste Land.

Just watched this Frontline about the Lahaina Fires. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/updates-lahaina-wildfire-documentary/
Eve, stay safe. Painful observation about the similarity to the kibbutz footage.
Stay safe. I feel you. Heartbreaking to say the least. I will do something in your honor of you and your city..
❤️
