Eve I met you in nashville and was so impressed I signed up as a founding member or whatever it is. I’m not Jewish. I was born and raised Protestant. My husband is a Jewish New Yorker. I am a passionate Zionist. It makes total sense to me everything you say. Everything Douglas Murray says. I cannot for the life of me understand the hypocrites who cry about things like what bathroom people are allowed to use but are silent on women being dragged through streets after being gang raped and spat on, kicked and killed by the Hamas animals. I. Will. Never. Understand. I don’t know where to go or what to do with my five kids but I am despairing for the world right now.

Something strange: three weeks ago justice Julia Motoc, from Romania, was removed from the ICC, for "health reasons".

Something even stranger: "the arrest warrants have not been made public to protect witnesses and safeguard the investigations" (Haaretz). In my country (Italy) no-one can be submitted to an arrest warrant without a public indictment. But the ICC against Israel can.

Good Post. 110% over the target.

Also: Extra points for bolo tie fashion and sticking tongue out. 👍🏻

Yes - WTF do the legacy orgs do? I just donated some money to StandWithUs, mostly on the recommendation of Benjamin Kerstein.

We need some new blood and new ideas and some subversive outside the walls thinking and action to reinvigorate (and I’m gonna take shit for this) and rebrand to enhance education, the appeal of our people, and the retention/expansion of the Jewish community. We live in a digital age. There must be some adaptation while being respectful to our traditions.

I’ve had varied experiences with Stand With Us.

We need some new orgs. We also need to build consensus across a broader coalition. That’s the opportunity and the challenge. What is happening is bad for Jews and also for society in general.

I also donate to Stand with us. From my observation, they seem to be onboard.

“Let me begin by saying this: I am so proud of every Jew who didn’t pander to the noise and didn’t decide to put their life and their survival at risk for the sake of appeasing our neighbors. In no reality can Jewish people appease political leaders who refuse to recognize antisemitic attacks and boycotting and who repeatedly empower and embolden Israel’s enemies; both financially and by not taking a clear stance against their ideology. If I’m dead, I can’t advocate for anyone’s anything. If that doesn’t make sense to you, then you’re not a friend of mine. You’re in a cult.”…

The question is how you can fight the pervasiveness of Jewish useful idiots who will sell themselves out just to feel good about themselves? Unfortunately, the fight would be occurring within my own cult-brainwashed family..

Hi Eve. I'm a new paid subscriber. I just wrote in my sign-up note that you and I are almost entirely on the same page, but I do differ with some of your positions. Strongly. However what matters most to me is that you are an outspoken Jewish woman, as I am, and you are just as repulsed by the leftist stance on Israel - I am also exiled from the left after a life of political and social activism in that space - and you are willing to speak courageously on behalf of Jewish people worldwide. I thank you for that, deeply. Like most others who are reading you, I and my family and close friends have all spent the past year in shock and horror, in a sort of growing disassociation with political and cultural reality, and a creeping sensation that we are headed down a familiar path. I am married into a family of Holocaust survivors. My disagreements come with your position on Trump and the right wing. But I will leave that for another post, another day. Big thanks for your work.

I think you’ll find that you don’t disagree me with on Trump actually. I’m not politically devout to anyone. I’m just like you. And I don’t view this as a right wing administration but a centrist one.

Your first sentence is rather undone by your last. Centrist??? I can't imagine how but I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Though I'm not sure a center exists for anything anymore ....

I think we are very much pulling back to center here. And yes I’m proud of Jews who put survival first just like we British liberal Jews had to do in 2019 when Corbyn could have g’d forbid become PM of the UK. We European Jews cried relief at the result two weeks ago. There’s empirical experience there that Americans should no longer ignore.

Expand full comment

It is not you who are shifting to the Center. It is the entire political spectrum that has shifted sharply to the left. People who thirty years ago adhered to leftist principles, without changing their beliefs, have ended up in the center or on the right side of the spectrum.

Expand full comment

Well, MAGA is not centrist, I mean I don't think anyone would describe them as such, not even themselves. I would rather describe the US at the moment as swinging wildly between extremes. I think the most radical act would be to create an actually centrist movement. If the moderate left had been able and willing to recognize and push back on the radical left in the past 10 years ... but they were afraid of being cancelled and shunned and sent into exile. Still are.

MAGA no but Trump isn’t just MAGA. Listen, Trump, RFK and Musk were all lifelong Democrats. Funny isn’t it?

Expand full comment

Yeah but Trump is not a Dem or a Rep or anything else. He does what works for him, period. Government for the Trump and by the Trump. And really RFK and Musk are the same. All of them are on their own trip. The parties are means to ends nothing more. And we can never be really sure what the ends are.

Here's the thing. The voices I have appreciated the most since October 7, and before, are writers and thinkers who are former leftists who have been purged or in self-exile from the "woke" left, and those who have been defending Jews and Israel even when they themselves are not Jewish. They are my heroes. However I have found a very concerning through line of really downplaying or denying the threat of the far-right as represented by MAGA and Trump. I attribute this to the hard fact that these folks are getting paid mostly through speaking to right-wing or right leading audiences. Though now that the election has passed I am hearing many of those people starting to turn their attention toward far-right extremism and the neo-nazi anti-semitism it harbors. Just starting to murmur some concern, some recognition. Great, but too late now! That's the train we're on and it isn't heading in a different direction than it always has been. Maybe the point here is that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend?

That's our Sophie's choice. Neo-Nazis on the right, Islamofascists on the left. Fun times.

Let's not forget the Tulsinator, or that Ivanka and Jared Kushner are Democrats, as well as the wonderful John Fetterman and Richie Torres.

Perhaps you might be convinced by Ben Shapiro who said Donald Trump was the moderate in this election. He is neither a nutty progressive or a fever swamp dweller from the far right (I admit to not knowing any Far Right types).

Trump is not Right Wing. In fact during the 2016 he was routinely criticized by the so called Conservatives for not following the party line. He is a pragmatist. He wants what works.

Expand full comment

It's an odd idea that I could be "convinced" by a comment from Shapiro, rather than rely on the ample evidence of Donald Trump himself who I have witnessed since I was a child in the 80s. His entire career, everything he openly is, everything he has said and done up to this moment, is a full and public testament to his character and intentions.

Wow! You have it bad. Please get help. As to Ben Shapiro having been vociferously anti Trump I’m 2016 he watched Trump in office and voted for him in 2020. I have respect for his principled and well thought out change of mind.

I truly wish you peace. You sound quite traumatized.

Sadly those organizations are just funding democrat causes. The ADL lost the plot a long time ago. We need new organizations, where we can see the results.

The ADL abandoned its mission to advocate for and protect the Jewish community long ago. They went woke and now they should go broke!

Unfortunately most high school and college students will get their limited information about Israel from Ta-Nehisi Coates, who spent a whole 10 days in Israel in order to write his latest antisemitic tome "The Message." People like Coates remind me how dangerous ignorance and arrogance is combined, and how willing the media is to latch onto his narrative and those like his without question. It's hard to tell who is more impressed with Coates - himself or the fawning left wing media stars like Chris Hayes of MSNBC.

Speaking to Barlow's point - Jews have missed the boat in banging our own drum in America and across the world. Millions are raised it seems to pay salaries for organizations like the ADL, while very little is done to actually combat anti-Jewish philosophies that are clearly present in our bastions of education, enabled on campuses and very little push back in a hostile American media. Meanwhile, Jihad gets a pass. Jihad is just another word in another time for "a thousand year reich" - a swing around the world where only Islam is permitted is the ultimate goal for all humanity - but, "ehhhh" no big deal to most of the world. Better to be safe and just go after Israel and the Jews, as usual. Gd forbid we overthink it.

Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it, yet those of us who study history are doomed to stand by helplessly while everyone else repeats it.

I recently heard an interview with Jonathan Greenblatt of ADL. He said that regarding antisemitism, the ADL mostly puts together legal cases that they actually expect to lose, so that the antisemitism is documented for the historical record.

Appalling.
