I notice no one came to Weiner’s defense in that clip, although many were around and heard.

Weiner had a large hand in creating that monster.

So glad you are addressing this, as it has been annoying me to no end!

A notice in our synagogue Friday newsletter re: joining the July 12 pride parade:

“Any Jewish person who feels comfortable identifying as some variety of queer, bi, trans, or gender nonconforming - and their partners, family, and allies - are welcome to join us”

My response:

Hi Solomon.

Many of us who fought hard over the years for Gay and Lesbian rights are curious to know why we have recently been thrown into an all encompassing box called “queer”. What it feels like to us is that the initials “L and G” have been erased from the acronym LGBTQ+. And yet the “Q”remains.

It likely seems fashionable and trendy in the present day to use the word “queer” but it sure doesn’t work for a lot of us. Is it because the younger generation are afraid to define themselves as “gay” or “lesbian” in case they might change their mind? That’s pretty old school. (Even renaming what we always called the “Gay Pride Parade” to “Pride” to make it more socially palatable, I would consider another earlier erasure.)

This sentence is everything - "We are now as endangered as the emperor penguin."

Eve you are so brilliant, one of your best!

I know Scott Weiner is a POS, but watching him get berated was awful, I actually felt sorry for him, because in the non-twisted world, the unkind and inhumane behavior of being hunted down and shouted at, called horrific names, is still wrong. And we all know right from wrong, right?

I cannot understand why the most obvious conclusion—one that follows from every statement made by those highly intelligent Butler-Dolls—doesn't simply become a matter of course: "`Queer Pride´Next Year in Ramallah." Problem solved. - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-27/world-cup-2026-iran-and-egypt-push-back-against-pride-match/106850698

Queer Pride´Next Year in Ramallah." - it needs to be done, let the flotillas reach Gaza, let all of the journalists in, and let the Queer Pride hit the streets of Ramallah!

Yes it will be great fun to watch the reaction of the veiled Dames and Hamas fascists on it. Hope they´re doing a good job.

Thank you.

I am beyond angry that 'Queer" seems to mean "Jew-hater" and still cannot wrap my mind around how those two issues became intertwined to the point that common sense took a powder and may never come back.

Jew-hate is also present in so called Women's Rights Groups to the point that Jewish women (like me) have stopped supporting them, and I was a women's studies major in 1976.

A recent "Queers for Gaza" interview went like this: a Queer man (dressed in spangles, heavily made up) is told by the interviewer "do you know that Queer men and women are murdered in Palestine? That Islam does not permit homosexuality? He/she/they just doubled down - it is better to hate genocidal Jews than care about being thrown off of a building in Gaza. Is it stupidity? The inability to think critically? Or is it just easier to stereotype and target Jews?

Bravo, Eve!

Screw them!

Leftists are so indulgent and intolerant at the same time. Indulge me that today I feel like a woman, and therefore I am. And if you question this paradigm, you will not be tolerated.

This was highly informative, thank you.

And a relief that there IS (maybe) a bridge too far.

Wouldn't it have been great if the comatose-like Wiener had replied to the heckler, "You've convinced me to switch sides. I am declaring myself 100% pro-Israel!"

I didn’t feel much sympathy for him, to be honest. As others have pointed out, he played a part in creating the monster that is now devouring him.

About 15 years ago, I came across the suggestion to use the term "DSG" - Diverse Sexuality and Gender - to replace the increasingly long acronym of LG++++ (I cannot even recall how many letters there are supposed to be any more - apologies)

The idea never caught on, which I could not understand. It seemed to me then - and it seems to me now - that the more letters there are then the more boxes there are and the more constricted people will be to try and force themselves into a pre-determined box. And so it has come to pass.

However, your analysis of the rise of the Q with its overt political agenda goes some way in explaining the failure of "DSG" as a term. Thank you.

The rise of the “Q”! Next they can join “Q-anon.”

I am a 65 yo lesbian and have bumped on the "queer" label for the past 20 yrs, offended and actively pushing back on it for at least the last 5. LGB rights have been achieved. Let's take the win. Let the Q+ have "pride". Also, no one anywhere is against transgender people in sports. What we are against is men in women's sports. It is imperative that we be clear with our words. Language matters. I adore you and your writings. Keep it up 💙

I watched the Scott Weiner video and was completely appalled at the crudeness and rudeness of the attackers. I don’t know much about Mr. Weiner, but observing this was very painful. If this is how the all-encompassing political “queer” movement wants to behave, this lesbian refuses to be part of it.

Olivia Coleman! WTF. Great essay. You explained everything concisely. Q+ needs to go. Falling between the cracks is never comfortable and these days, it’s unsafe.

Annie Weeks's avatar

Silliness on her part. She just wants to be thought of as “with it.”

I can't stand Wiener but I also couldn't help identifying with him because I know the same people would be screaming the same things at me if I were in his position. What makes me really angry is that the attacks brought more donations to his congressional campaign. That A-hole probably wants to be president. Argh.
