It's not just the antisemitism that these Western enablers refuse to see. They also refuse to see that they are aiding and supporting the spread of Islamic jihadism, a malignant strain of religious fanaticism that's metastasizing like a fast-moving cancer throughout the Muslim world. They march in lock-step with people who want to see first the entire Middle East and then the rest of the world yoked under Shara feudalism.

Like the fellow travelers and enablers of the old Communists, they chant and march, blissfully ignorant that they and the values and rights that they have fought to achieve will be the first things put up against the wall and shot in the name of religious purity.

Israel is a successful, liberal, Western-style democracy in a sea of repressive religious dictators and monarchies. They know if they can't destroy Israel, sometime very soon the exploding young population will start wanting the same freedoms and economic opportunities the Israelis have and the mullahs will lose control and, when they do, they will find themselves hanging from the ends of cranes.

You’re correct and this is a point I make into the void very often

Those hajibs they're wearing as a trendy symbol of "solidarity" won't be so much fun when failing to wear one could result in them being arrested or pulled off a train and beaten to death.

I agree with you. Many people (here in Canada) that I speak to about the war in Gaza have no idea A) where it is. B) what happened on October 7th. C) Why it happened. D) nor do they really care. Most of the comments I hear are, Oh well, It's the Middle East, they're all crazy there; what do you expect?

Also, most people don't realize that Islam is not just a religion. It is a complete system (culture) that includes the control of religion, the law and politics. There is no way that Islam and Western secular society can ever coincide without conflict; it's not possible. In order for Islam to be successful in the eyes of the Islamists, all three have to be in power.

I think, for the first time since the 1930s, Jewish people are experiencing what the unfortunate Jewish people of Europe experienced in the period just prior to WW2. I suspect that many, many Jewish people were shocked, incredulous and disheartened by the rise of antisemitism in Europe. At that time, Germany was seen as an enlightened country, an educated country, industrial and advanced. Much like the US, UK and Canada today. The fact that so many so-called educated liberal-minded people could fall for the antisemitism that is coming out of the mainstream media is disturbing and frightening. Many modern people used to wonder how the common German was convinced to go along with the Nazis. I suspect many of us nowadays no longer wonder that. We're seeing it happen again in real time with the weekly protests around the globe. I don't blame any Jewish person for being afraid of their neighbours and fellow countrymen. After all, it was the locals who rounded up the Jews in the 1930s and early 1940s, not some foreign power.

What gives me hope today is that Israel exists for the Jewish people. What also gives me hope is that the Jewish people know from history how fast people can turn on them and the results of that treachery. They also know (Islamists don't hide it) that their neighbours, Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, etc, want them dead, and they prepare for it.

I don't believe that Israel will ever go down without a fight, and if any nation is crazy enough to try it, Israel will gladly die to defend itself to the bitter end, taking as many of their enemies with it as humanly possible. I will do everything I can and vote for people in this country who support Israel and the free world. I will never support the death cult of Islamists who are trying to poison our society with morals and values that belong in the stone age.

Wonderful comment. Not only are we dealing with fundamental cultural incompatibility, we're seeing our own laws and educational systems being used to force us to adapt our culture and values to theirs..

I agree. In writing this, I am not saying that all Muslims are bad, just like not all people who live under communism are bad either. I believe that the basic tenets of Islam are flawed and backward and do not mesh with the modern world. Just as communism does not mesh with our liberal and democratic societies in the West. I cannot see a way forward for our society in the West to cohabitate successfully with Islam in the long wrong.

I don't even know how to counter the amount of disinformation I see on my FB feed, from otherwise "progressive" friends. They steadfastly refuse to see anything but what the Hamas-driven propaganda machine feeds them. Even friends who formerly remained quiet on Israel/Gaza now are posting all the buzzwords (genocide! famine! starvation!) without knowing even the tiniest bit of what is actually happening in Gaza and Israel. They won't read what I share; they have blinders on, thinking they understand the situation via the "oppressor/oppressed" narrative they've swallowed hook, line, and sinker. I find myself sadly falling away from these people I thought I knew.

I'm not even Jewish. I'm not Israeli. I'm just a liberal-to-moderate U.S. Democrat who is blown away at the response of so many of my peers. How do we stop the disinformation when it is so loud and overwhelming???

They and most of what passes for the left today, are in a cult. They IMO are every bit as dangerous as the MAGA cult. I too have considered myself a center-left US Democrat, and my views have not changed, but the masks have come off and will think long and hard for every vote I cast. I can't betray my classic liberalism, but also can't vote for the ceasefire/bandwagon crowd, nor do I want such people in my orbit.

There is no “MAGA cult”. That’s a defamatory moniker created by the power-hungry Dems to cynically stay in power. Do you know who the MAGA people are? They are the people who make your life possible: the plumbers, electricians, policemen, firemen, carpenters, welders, mechanics…the list goes on and on. They come from every race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and class. These people who Biden so horribly maligns can see how the Democrats have aligned with Marxists, ruined our great cities, and soon our entire country. And now, with their perverse pro-Muslim, anti-Israel stance, they are working on ruining the world.

When the dust settles I want the media outlets that have fanned the flames to be held accountable. But here’s the thing: the fifth estate never examines itself. No investigations of lazy, corrupt reporting. And opinions disguised as facts. They will just move on to the next big thing. How can we make them genuinely accept responsibility and return to credibility.

Every news report I have seen about the tragedy of the aid convoy is sure to point out that the vehicles were Clearly Marked - as if to imply that the IDf is seeking out innocents to harm.

Expand full comment

The point is that clearly marked vehicles are used by Hamas for military purposes.

These vehicles contained armed men who carried out Hamas tasks. The problem is that the military could not determine the presence of civilians there.

But no one asks what task the employees of the international organization performed together with armed people in the combat zone.

As I read this article, I can almost feel the anguish, rage, disbelief and fear that you undoubtedly feel as you watch, read and listen to your fellow human beings turn against you (the Jewish People) and claim support for Hamas.

I am not Jewish. I'm not religious. I've never been to Israel either, but in saying all that, I am human and do support human rights. I also stand for what is right.

For me (as a retired copper), I can say all through my career, I have been witness to what damage cowards can do. They abuse those who can't stand up for themselves and people who are alone. They side with people they don't agree with to save their own skin, and in my opinion, they do the most damage in society.

To clarify as well, in my opinion, the Palestinians are Hamas, and the Hamas are the Palestinians. People who say otherwise are either naive or trying to excuse their antisemitic behaviour. The claim that they aren't is ridiculous. Can you imagine if people were to say that the US military is not made up of Americans or that the US Military doesn't stand for the USA? It's ludicrous. Where do these people think Hamas gets their terrorists from, Mars? Of course, Hamas represents the Palestinians, and if Hamas were winning this war, they would be celebrating in the streets, trust me.

There have always been many, many cowards in our midst. In days past, they had little or no voice. The locals knew who they were and that they weren't to be trusted or relied upon in times of need. People years ago also knew that these cowards would turn on them at the drop of a hat to save their own skins. Sadly, nowadays, the cowards of the world have the internet and social media. They have keyboard courage and spout their vile views freely with little or no consequence.

Never in the history of the world has such a small nation like Israel (approx 9 million) stood against such an overwhelming adversary (The Arab League 440 million). I know that not all Arabs want to destroy Israel, but if even one-tenth have that agenda, you get the point.

So, with these facts, I can see why Jewish people are greatly concerned by the recent backlash against Israel. The Jewish people already knew that the Islamists wanted them dead. I think the shock is that they didn't realize so many other cowardly people were hiding under rocks, seething with antisemitic hatred for them. These were likely people who smiled at them in the past, said hello and good morning...shared a meal, all the while hiding the fact they didn't like Jews.

I know these Western nations people who support Hamas (Gaza) are weak. They know that Hamas does not represent their views or morals as a whole. They know this without a doubt. When was the last time a woman was stoned in a US city for adultery? When was the last time a gay man or woman was thrown off a building or crucified in the US by the ruling party? When was the last time people who left a religion were beheaded in a Western city? There are so many more examples, and to list all the ways that the Islamists are the very antithesis of Western morals and values would fill the page.

Bottom line. Israel has courage. Israel is doing the right thing despite the tremendous pressure it is under. Israel has a right to defend itself. The Jewish people have a right to live in peace. The Jewish people (anywhere in the world) have a right to defend themselves.

History will show that Israel was right. It will also show that Western nations, blinded by social media posts from a cowardly minority, were swayed from doing what they knew was right. Israel is not perfect; no nation is, but Israel at least respects human rights, shares our values, and stands for what is right. We have a duty to stand behind them if we value our own society and what it stands for.

So, Ms Barlow, don't waiver, and please never give up hope. The silent majority is standing with you, and the truth is, we need people like you out there, boots on the ground, seeing and witnessing what we cannot. You have real courage, and it is inspiring and contagious. Keep it up. If not for people like you, Caroline Glick, and Bari Weiss, the world would be a far worse place to live in.

Another rational piece Eve but also coming from the heart

It’s not just your Jewish brothers and sisters who are deflated. We non-Jews are exasperated at the huge bubble of antisemitism that has burst in our midst. We are at a loss to explain it except, unfortunately, it probably was always there. So we have an even bigger responsibility now. That is, to constantly call out the bigots and the Jew haters that have stained our communities and to never accept their ignorance and in some cases pure malevolence. We are with you! Never Again!

Keep fighting and speaking truth, Eve. Your voice is vital not just to Israel but to all of Western Civilization. Another powerful piece Eve. This week highlighted the shocking hypocrisy of governments like the UK ands US - Cameron and Biden both as disgusting as each other - with very short memories villainising Israel for what they have perpetrated themselves on many occasions. And all because both countries go to the polls later this year. Sacrificing decency for votes. It’s actually repulsive.

Mainstream media highlighting the film Israelism to prove a point - that Israel has no friends - young Jews are now railing against Israel in their droves apparently. Absolute bullshit and a shocking treacherous piece of propaganda.

We are living in frightening times.

Oh Eve you missed you! My heart hurts from all of the attacks that Jews are suffering everywhere! The world sees us as expendable. We are a nuisance. The hostages are long forgotten. The IDF is now seen as the evil aggressors and the world has turned its back on Israel. The fear Jews feel in the diaspora is palpable. College campuses are war zones. Hamas has put Jews in the center of the target everywhere.

I love that quote “the world has forgiven Germany for an industrial scale genocide against Jews, but will never forgive Israel for winning a war they didn’t start.” Israel has yet to win that war. If Israel does not win the war Jews everywhere in the world lose. If Israel does win the war Jews everywhere may need to be prepared to go there. The diaspora may never be safe again.
