It has been too long since the intifadas. That is what we have said. That is why the young ones – Gen Z – only see Israel as the aggressor. That is why they swallow it wholesale. They never saw or heard about the daily threats that Israeli citizens experienced living side-by-side with their neighbors. They thought Israel was the bad guy. Black and white. Just like everything else on TikTok.
Israel? A vulnerable country? Shut up, colonizer!
Hamas really plugged the gap yesterday. The wide-eyed fear of Israelis right now is one that reflects how long it has been since the country felt truly caught off guard. As Hamas entered with bravado and excessive showmanship, capturing their every kill, sharing it all online, it seems they may have perhaps been a little overconfident, believing that the disease of antisemitism that links Jew haters the world over has become so deeply lodged and programmed into the Instagram-soaked brains of Westerners everywhere that they would only welcome the death of all Jews as the clear solution to every climate change, misogyny, racism, and other social cause we face. No more Jewish people, a better world. Sounds very uh Third Reich, right?
Pulling out from the Israel War right now… We are reaching a tipping point culturally. It seems that ordinary, good, rational people have had enough of being dictated their opinions to by woke fascists or alt right balloons. They are starting to find room for discussions and balance. They are starting to ask what society they want to live in, not what society they are being told they want to live in. They are pushing back. I am heartened, albeit gruesomely heartened, by the response from non-Jewish people to events in the last few days. And I have been reminded that ordinary people are capable of cutting through social pressure and group-think when they are faced with true evil.
My friend got caught in a skirmish in New York City today. She is not Jewish. She went for groceries and found herself amid one of the heinous mass celebrations taking place in America's day-lit streets. She ran home to feel safe. I told her that in Israel you can walk down the street at 2am and see old women crossing the street alone, because it's actually a very safe society.
The enemy is institutionalized in the West. For years, I have spoken about how widespread antisemitism is across American university campuses. I and many others have campaigned against multiple instances upon which convicted terrorists have been invited to speak on campus, and any audience who might object has been denied an equivalent platform. Today student organizations and lecturers of this ilk are joyful about the massacres, the rapes, the torturing. The enemy is in our streets, organizing rallies. I posted footage today on Twitter of mobs of people in Canada, in America, in the UK. In the town of Brighton, one woman on a loudspeaker said that what happened in Israel yesterday, displays of terror that have justifiably drawn comparisons with ISIS, was – “beautiful”.
In America, the protestors carried Nazi symbols. For years, we have screamed to deaf ears that Palestinian propaganda funded by Iran sensationally lied to erase Jewish history and reverse victim and offender. To claim that Holocaust survivors and their children and grandchildren were doing to the Palestinians what was done to us. That in some grandiose and neat Shakespearean-style display of poetic fiction, the Jews in fact became the Nazis. The leftist mobs who boast and fantasize about punching Nazis were merely taking the mirror in front of them and facing it towards the opposite side. The mob pointed their fingers in the wrong direction. Every single elected official who is responsible for representing a democratic state should be condemning these displays of cowardice and dishonor.
Today I noticed that reasonable non-Jews were expressing their lack of comfort and security in their own cities as a result of these displays. Hamas thought they could show the world their monstrous hate and everyone would agree - this is what Jews deserve. Good ordinary people disagree. From the Christian Crusaders to Russian Empire pogroms to the Nazis to too much of the Muslim world, antisemitic societies have believed that eradicating Jews is the ultimate solution. That is what they have in common, endlessly borrowing from each other in cycles of barbaric attempts at genocide. It's a convenient way for societies to not take responsibility for their own problems. And even non-Jewish people are expendable in this mission. Some of the people who died in Israel yesterday were tourists, and not Jewish: Thai, American, German. The antisemitism is so woven into their superiority complex that leftists are maintaining that crimes against humanity are explicable given the circumstances.
She managed to escape the first round of Nazis but not long enough for the second round of Nazis to rise like a Jew-hunting phoenix.
Today I shared a piece with some feminist groups. Not Jewish. Every single feminist should care about what happened to the women who were taken from the music festival in Southern Israel. So far 260 dead bodies have been recovered. Footage was released of revellers fleeing in the desert in fear. Liel Leibovitz at Tablet wrote an eyewitness account today that is beyond harrowing, and if you are easily triggered by accounts of sexual assaults, perhaps skip this quote:
Others were captured and bound and kidnapped. “I saw videos with a male getting held by a group of Arab kids. Like, they’re like 16, 17,” one survivor recalled. “They’re kids, but they’re they’re young men already, and they’re holding this guy, and he looks as his girlfriend is being mounted on a bike and driven away from him. God knows what she’s going to experience… Women have been raped at the area of the rave next to their friends bodies, dead bodies.”
Several of these rape victims appear to have been later executed. Others were taken to Gaza. In photographs released online, you can see several paraded through the city’s streets, blood gushing from between their legs.
The international human rights community has not condemned this. What the hell are they waiting for? And why do thousands of people continue to be emboldened to take to the streets of New York to CELEBRATE these atrocities. Once the Israelis captured some of the perpetrators in the music festival incidents, they raided their vans, only to find - yes - Soviet weapons and copies of the Quran.
In May 2021, we'd talk about the conflict as one that boiled down to the fight for truth. It's since evolved. Today in the US, Canada, and Europe, there have been displays of jubilant celebration in democratic countries honoring and glorifying inarguable acts of terrorism. Now we are in a fight for morality. Today's scenes are a result of years of successful brainwashing. Antisemitic brainwashing. Universities, human rights organizations, social media causes and subsequent social media campaigns, celebrities who post misinformation about the conflict have all added firewood to fan the flames of antisemitism, ensuring that it keeps growing. Gen Z has been educated via social media, and sensationalized information, on platforms that are amenable to abuse, amenable to bite-sized understandings of complex historical material. Social media has been the arbiter of incendiary soundbites that tell half-truths to young people looking for purpose and willing to be weaponized in a conflict that doesn't concern them. They have willingly become puppets for terrorists. But offline, when faced with the reality, suddenly the joy of likes on Twitter or a viral TikTok fades into abject fear for a culture they have never truly met, known or understood. Palestinian propaganda is predatory, and perhaps it has gotten a little too ahead of itself.
The waves of said propaganda are coming. So please, I kindly ask my non-Jewish friends to remember the atrocities of this weekend in the coming days. Understand that the wolves in sheeps' clothing who call themselves “human rights activists” will do everything in their and the mainstream media’s power to move your focus from Israel’s defense towards a character assassination of Israel that is well-oiled and rehearsed. Don’t fall for it.
We NEED you to speak up for us now. Jews and Israelis. It's enough. We're not begging you. You're asking how you can help. That's how. Say NO to terrorism. Say NO to the mobs. Speak up, speak loud, speak now.
Thank you Eve as always for speaking the truth so eloquently and strongly. I read everything you write!
My attitude historically has been to seek peace - no longer. It is time to eliminate terrorists in a manner that will prevent future atrocities. IDF should not engage in door to door clearing of combatant, rather simply demolish the buildings they inhabit and not risk Israeli lives. I note that electric power has been terminated - now, stop all aid of any kind until Hamas is eliminated.
Why have I reached a conclusion normally antithetical to my historic thinking, becoming a radical? I read with disgust the nauseating acts of the terrorists towards women and considered how I would respond to such acts perpetrated on my own friends or family. Hamas and any other terrorists that support them need be destroyed!
I publish my thought with the expectation that I will, end up on an FBI or other multi-initial agency as a dangerous radical - so be it.
I end with a request: please publish a name and address that will support the Israeli people - I am too old (82) and disabled to fight for Israel, I can, however, provide moral and monetary support.
I stand with Israel!
